If there is one event that has shaken the masses of the entire country in the recent times, it’s the demonetization move that was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 8th 2016. Following the announcement of demonetization people had to form long queues at banks and ATMs to withdraw money, deposit money or exchange notes. However, Vodafone India has tried to make things easier by letting the Vodafone M-Pesa customers withdraw cash from relevant outlets across the country.

What is M-Pesa?

M-Pesa is a money transfer service through which users can transact in an easy and convenient way from their mobile phone. With M-Pesa, mobile users can not only send and withdraw money but also make utility bill payments, do DTH recharging and get Vodafone mobile recharge done instantly without paying cash.

Vodafone M-Pesa Limited (VMPL) launched M-Pesa in collaboration with ICICI bank in November 2011 and aims to rollout the service throughout India. Users have to initially sign up with a payment of INR 100 from which INR 25 will be credited back to their account. M-Pesa transactions are chargeable for money transfer services and DTH and prepaid Vodafone mobile recharge services through M-Pesa are free.

As per the new ‘Cash-Out’ facility by Vodafone, the company’s M-Pesa customers will now be able to withdraw cash from any of the 1,20,000 Vodafone M-Pesa outlets across the country. This service has been introduced to help customers skip over long and tiring queues at banks and ATMs.

The Business Head of Vodafone M-Pesa, Suresh Sethi mentioned “Vodafone M-Pesa customers do not need to stand in long queues outside ATMs and bank branches for cash. Our customers can visit any of the M-Pesa outlets and use the cash out feature to withdraw cash from their digital wallet at their convenience.” He also added that the digital wallet can be loaded through debit or credit cards or even Net banking at zero cost and the same amount could be easily used to shop online, pay bills and transfer money to relatives and friends besides getting Vodafone mobile top up done.
